Solid Foundation
The most important element in creating a product that lasts? A rock solid foundation. That’s why we begin each of our fence builds with 4X6 ground contact posts.
Rotten fence posts are the #1 reason why a fence needs to be replaced.
Our ground contact posts are made specifically to be placed within the ground. Decaying fungi and insects can lurk below soil and eat away at untreated wood, compromising the stability of your fence.
Our contact posts are treated to prevent rot and repel moisture, keeping your foundation solid. Without this treatment, your fence might need to be replaced in just a few years.
Each of our posts are installed 4 feet below grade for increased stability. We use concrete to set our contact posts to ensure they stay put for years.
Screws Instead of Nails
In all of the fences we build in Edmonton, we use screws instead of nails. You may think that nails are the best fascincer for your wood fence, but nails are more likely to grow loose over time. Screws not only make your fence more secure, but they also allow for easier repairs should your fence become damaged.
Screws take more time to install than nails, but a good job shouldn’t be rushed. We’d rather take the time to do things right. We’ll make sure your fence is secure and safe from everything from soccer balls to snow storms.
Wood Fences Treated With ACQ Materials
All of our building materials are ACQ (Alkaline Copper Quaternary) treated. ACQ is a type of pressure treatment that helps to preserve wood by protecting it from the elements and decay.
Each cut of wood is also treated with Copper 2 Sulfate to further protect your fence from rot. We finish each of our fences an inch above the ground, which protects it from water damage.

Knottwood Construction is a family business that was created over a decade ago by myself (Frank), and my son, Scott.

We Put Safety First
We provide utility locating to all of our customers free of charge. Did you know that utility lines can be buried mere centimeters below the surface? While you think you may know where your power, cable or water line run, your home’s previous owner could have done their own handiwork.
Utility locating must be completed before any ground disturbance. Taking a risk could mean skipping a shower for a few days (and a hefty repair bill), or it could mean losing a life.
The safety of your family and our team is as important to us as it is to you. We always locate before we break ground.
